Sonnys Camp n Travel was founded in 1969 by Sonny Slusser in Charleston, South Carolina as a service company for mobile homes and travel trailers. He quickly diversified to sales of mobile homes and deliveries.
In 1970 Sonny bought a 1964 Open Road which needed to be rebuilt.....thus the begining of a prosperous journey into the RV industry. In 1971, he and an old high school buddy though that manufacturing RVs was a venture worth pursuing, however, after manufacturing one motorhome, he decided that perhaps RV sales would be a better idea.
He quickly outgrew the facility on Sieberling Avenue, therefore in 1973 he opened a full line RV dealership on Dorchester Road, Charleston, South Carolina. He became very active in the Recreational Dealers Association and it's promotion nationwide. Continuing to expand, in 1977 he purchased an existing Airstream dealership in Greensboro, North Carolina which he still owns and oversees today.
Still searching for new markets in his quest to become one of the largest RV dealers in the Southeast, he opened another RV dealership in Spartanburg, South Carolina in February 1984 and then in 1989 he sold it to his younger brothers.
Through Sonny's continued direction and encouragement, a lot of hard work, and the blessings of God, Sonny's Camp N Travel of Spartanburg Inc. has developed to be one of the largest RV Dealers in South Carolina and in 2012 opened a new dealership in Concord, North Carolina.

We bought our first travel trailer here last summer and have taken it from the mountains of North Carolina to the beaches of South Carolina and to Tampa Fl. We bought our first camper from Sonny's about six months ago. We kept it simple, to see how we enjoyed camping. We got a Kodiak 263RLSL, and fell in love with camping. We decided to move up to something with a full size bed. We went to two shows in Charlotte, one in Greenville, and wound up back at Sonny's. We had bought our first camper from TJ, but found out that he had moved to the new store in Concord. He had helped us so much the first time, that I contacted him again, even though we were buying in Duncan. He always returned my call, or text, and we basically purchased our new Outback through texting. TJ has gone out of his way to make this deal happen, even though he is in NC. Everyone at Sonny's has been wonderful. before and after the sale. There is absolutely no pressure to buy, and they will always answer the phone to assist with any problems after the sale. has had a lot of problems! The RV manufacturer Had very poor quality control resulting in excessive maintenance costs...
